JALAM

JALAM-Jabalpur Art, Literature, and Music Festival organized by Ityadi Art Foundation is the annual celebration of an ongoing public art movement. ITYADI ART FOUNDATION is the brainchild of renowned Indian artist and cultural activist Vinay Amber. This year, in its 9th edition, JALAM 2024, is continuing to shape the cultural discourse in Central India. The festival is scheduled to take place from December 26,27,28 and 29 2024, at the Sanskriti Theatre Complex, Cultural Street, Bhawartal Garden, Napier Town, Jabalpur (MP). This year we are dedicating JALAM to the memory of legend artist of India Padmabhushana A.Ramachandran. We are fortunate that our founder Vinay Amber and secretary Dr.Supriya Amber have the privilege to receive direct guidance and mentoring by A.Ramachandran Sir for more than a decade. This year we are celebrating this festival by spreading more and more words about the life and achievements of the maestro A.Ramachandran. We as a group of artists and cultural activists found our beliefs very close to the principals of our legend Ramachandran sir.

Tributes to Shri A. Ramachandran Sir

Born in Kerala in 1935, A. Ramachandran is an acclaimed artist, writer, and educator. He earned his Master’s in Malayalam literature from Kerala University in 1957 and later studied art at Kala Bhavana, Visva Bharati University, under luminaries like Ramkinkar Baij and Benodebehari Mukherjee. The rich cultural milieu of Santiniketan inspired his lifelong research on Kerala temple murals.

He joined Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi, in 1965, where he developed the art department into one of India's most prestigious institutions. After 28 years, he retired in 1992 to focus entirely on his artistic pursuits.

Ramachandran has held over 32 solo exhibitions and represented Indian art globally in prestigious shows. He received numerous accolades, including the National Awards for Painting (1969, 1972), Padma Bhushan (2005), and the Kalidas Samman (2018). His works span paintings, sculptures, murals, and children’s books, including monumental projects like the Rajiv Gandhi Memorial bas-relief sculpture.

Recognized as one of India’s greatest modern artists, he continues to inspire through his art, writing, and scholarship.
